The
Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) aims at analyzing the nature of threats posed against military and civilian maritime targets in Mediterranean basin with a particular attention devoted to their possible impacts on the energy market. The ARW will focus not only on ways to fight terror at sea, but also on how to better cushion the blow to the economies of major energy consumers and producers in the case of a major disruption of oil traffic. Besides the Mediterranean Sea the region of Black and Caspian Seas will also be paid special attention due to the fact that these regions possess rich energy resources and lie at the center of many potentially explosive ethnic and interstate conflicts. The Advanced Research Workshop will examine the holes in the defense against maritime terrorism which usually perceived as the 'weak link' and will promote greater interactions between governmental and non-governmental experts coming from eligible and non-eligible NATO partner countries as well as NATO member states to better tackle maritime terrorism.
