The Caucasus Office of Transnational Crime and Corruption Center (TraCCC CO) held a conference on: "
Transnational Crime and Corruption in Georgia". At the conference, grantees of TraCCC CO presented the results of their research on corruption in various sectors of Georgian society including the economy, policy arena, and educational system. The presentations included recommendations for combating corruption in these sectors.
Attendees included representatives from governmental, nongovernmental, and international organizations in Georgia and members of the media. The conference was held on
Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at
Hotel "Sympatia" on 4, 1st Alley Gagarin str.

Tbilisi State University's Political Science Department organized the Students' conference on the following topic: "
Urgent Problems of Corruption in Georgia". Participants of the conference were students journalists, lawyers, political scientist, grantees of the TraCCC CO. All the speakers presented their papers in PowerPoint program. The conference was held on

Tbilisi State University Social-Political Department Students' conference on "
Corruption Global and Local Challenges" was organized under the auspices of the TraCCC Caucasus Office on
Saturday, June 10, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. - 07:00 p.m. at
Tbilisi State University Main Building, 2nd floor, Davit Sarajishvili Auditorium (1, I. Chavchavadze ave.)
20 students of political science, journalists and lawyers presented reports on corruption in Georgia and in the different countries of the world. During the conference were discussed critical issues of state building and fighting corruption in Georgia and specifics of corruption in different countries as Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Israel, Nigeria, and Western Democracies. During the conference was decided to organize with student grantees of the TraCCC Caucasus Office the joint conference on corruption on June 23, 2006.

Alexandre Kukhianidze (Director of TraCCC Caucasus Office) participated in the conference "
Information Analysis Methods Used for Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism" organized by the "
Real Systems" (Estonia), "
i2 Inc" (UK),
National Bank of Georgia and the
Financial Monitoring Service. The conference was held with the help of the consultants of the international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the USA International Development Agency, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and United Nations Development Program. The experts of the financial monitoring service of Georgia Azerbaijan, Armenia, Estonia, the Great Britain and the company "i2" took part in the conference. The discussion touched upon the structure of information on combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism, the issues of the database management, the legislative changes required for preventing the legalization of illicit incomes and the importance of the cooperation between the financial monitoring services and the law enforcement authorities, information exchange, analysis and research methods. The invited experts shared experience on the methods for combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism and analysis of information available at financial monitoring services. The conference was held on
May 17-18, 2006 at the
Hotel "Tbilisi Marriott" in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The Caucasus Office of Transnational Crime and Corruption Center (TraCCC) organized the conference on the following topic: "
Transnational Crime and Corruption in Georgia". The conference was held on
Tuesday, January 17, 2006 in
Sympatia Hotel in Tbilisi. TraCCC Grantees presented their research results on corruption in vital sectors of the Georgian economy, in the political sphere, and in different fields of social life in Georgia, and made recommendations on how to combat it. Representatives of the Government of Georgia, foreign government organizations, NGOs, and mass media participated in the conference.
