The Transnational Crime and Corruption Center's International Conference on Money Laundering and Economic Crime has been held in Tbilisi, June 29-30, 2004. This conference represented the culmination of over two years of intensive analytical research on the subject by TraCCC's Georgian Money Laundering and Economic Crime Research Project. TraCCC's analysis of money laundering in Georgia builds on its examination of transnational crime and corruption in the region. Leading Georgian and foreign scholars and policymakers, representatives of financial institutions, legislative and executive authorities and invited international experts have been participated in the conference. The TraCCC conference built linkages between Georgian scholars engaged in studying these issues and policymakers looking for innovative approaches to address money laundering and economic crime.

On 23 March 2004, in Hall of Metekhi Palace Hotel, was held the presentation of the Georgian translation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Draft Law on Prevention of Trafficking in Persons, Fight against Trafficking and Protection, Assistance and Rehabilitation of the Victims of Trafficking.

    The project of publishing the Convention in the Georgian language was implemented under the leadership of Professor Georgi Glonti (Researcher of TraCCC GO) with the financial support of OSCE/Office for the Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Legislative Alert Program. Georgia Economic Crime and Money Laundering Programme of the TraCCC has conducted a seminar: "Corruption and Money Laundering in the Energy Sector" on February 29 in the Georgian Technical University. The Programme's scholars presented their researches, which have been implemented under the TraCCC small and large grants projects. Among the attendees were the leading specialists of the energy sector of Georgia as well as representatives of executive and judicial authorities. Prof. Louise Shelley, Director of the TraCCC delivered a welcoming speech. Mr. Nikoloz Gilauri, the Minister of Energy of Georgia, in his concluding remarks, underlined that the policy recommendations of the TraCCC's researchers almost fully correspond to his plan of action.
